Oldbury Power Station
February 23 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
FreeLeader: Dot Jones
Our walk is around the area around the former Oldbury Power Station on the banks of the River Severn, over recent years this has become a significant birdwatching site due to its several lagoons, scrubland, and shoreline attracting a variety of waterfowl and wading birds, particularly during high tide roosting; essentially a de facto nature reserve within the power station grounds.
- Bird species:
Common birds seen here include Little Grebe, Greenshank, Curlew, Knot, Shelduck, Oystercatcher, various raptors. One of the key birds we hope to see are Black Redstart hich frequently over winter.
- Habitat features:
The main attraction is the former cooling water lagoons, which now provide diverse habitats like scrub, small copses, and mudflats exposed at low tide.
- Access:
There are public footpaths around the site, we’ll meet in the car park – use the Whats App group to co-ordinate lifts.
