Portland is one of my favourite trips – there’s so much to pack into a day and going at the start of the April gives us a great chance of catching up with some early migrants such as a Wheatear, often seen foraging around the huge rocks at the bill. We’ll head straight down to the Southerly prominentary it’s position in the English channel often means it’s one of the first places to see our summer visitors.
There’s also a good chance of seeing lingering winter visitors – such as purple sandpipers and black redstart. Hopefully we’ll see the resident little owls as well as practically tripping over rock pipits.
We’ll also visit the estuary scrapes at Ferry Bridge and finish off with a visit to Lodmoor or Radipole Lake.
For lift share from Stroud meet at Cheapside Car Park at 7:00am early start means we get to make the most of the day – it’ll be worth it :).
