Steart Marshes
March 24, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
FreeLeader: Dot Jones
Managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) Steart Marshes, is an expansive and biodiverse wetland area located on the north-west coast of Somerset, England.
It represents a significant habitat for a wide array of wildlife, particularly bird species, but also includes mammals like otters, and brown hares.
Our visit is on the cusp of spring, early flowers such as marsh marigold, cuckoo flower, and cowslip may be in bloom adding a splash colour. Hares are on the reserve and we could see boxing boxing hares may be putting on a show.
We can expect the first Wheatears and Martins to have arrived and we should see and hear plenty of skylarks.
There should be a wide array of wildfowl such as teal, golden plover, wigeon, dunlin and curlew. Our past visits have also given us good views of raptors with Hen and Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Merlin, Buzzard and Red Kite all seen.
We’ll meet in the car park at 10:00am. Drivers required, lift share logistics via Whats App group.
Happy to car share from Yate
I will need a seat for this trip.
