SUMMARY:Frampton in Summer
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Nick Goatman\n\n  \nOur popular seasonal visits to Frampton continue with a summer exploration of one of Gloucestershire’s most productive local birding sites. We’re fortunate once again to be joined by local patch expert Nick Goatman\, who has spent more than two decades birding Frampton and knows every corner of this remarkable area. Nick has recorded over 200 species here and always seems capable of finding something unexpected. \nBy mid-summer\, the birding is very different from our spring visit. Many species will have successfully fledged young\, and we’ll have the opportunity to observe family groups feeding along the hedgerows\, reedbeds and lake margins. Frampton’s varied habitats – including its lakes\, reedbeds\, farmland and mature hedgerows – provide excellent opportunities to encounter a wide range of species during the morning. \nPotential highlights include: \n\nSpotted Flycatcher\nReed Warbler\nSedge Warbler\nWhitethroat\nLesser Whitethroat\nCetti’s Warbler\nHobby\nGreen Woodpecker\nKingfisher\nGrey Heron\nLittle Egret\n\nDerek Keats from Johannesburg\, South Africa\, CC BY 2.0\, via Wikimedia Commons\nSummer is also an excellent time to enjoy the wider wildlife spectacle. The reserve is often alive with dragonflies and damselflies\, while butterflies such as Marbled White\, Gatekeeper and Brown Argus can be abundant. Wildflowers should be at their peak\, adding plenty of colour to the walk. \nWe’ll meet in the small car park at the bottom end of The Green on the track leading towards the sailing lake at 8:30am. The walk is largely flat\, with good paths throughout\, making it suitable for all abilities. We expect to be out for approximately three hours

SUMMARY:Cotswold Water Park
DESCRIPTION:Leader Colin Greenfield\nPit 74 Cleveland Lakes: Twitchers Gate and Pit 201 The Old Railway Line\n2nd August 2026. Start 8.30am (duration 2-3 hrs).\nDepending on parking availability\, park at Twitchers Gate \nAn opportunity to explore part of the considerable Cotswold Water Park area\, which has over\n150 man-made lakes of various types from gravel scrapes to extensive reedbeds. The\ncentral location and the variety of habitats provide an important stop off point for migrating\nbirds\, during both spring and autumn. It is said that anything can turn up\, so this is our\nopportunity to put that to the test. \nThe target will be to find interesting breeding birds\, and birds starting their migration\,\nprobably waders at this time of year. \nWe will start at Rixon Gate\, known as Twitchers Gate\, found off Friday’s Ham Lane. After\nscanning lake 74 (Cleveland Lake)\, we will head along a minor road towards the old railway\nline to a couple of more recent pits that have attracted some good birds\, such as Yellow\nWagtail\, Wood Sandpiper and Temminck’s Stint back in the spring.\nAfter surveying these pits\, we can then return along the minor road back to Twitchers Gate.\nNote\, there is limited parking near to Cleveland Lakes. If space is limited parking may need\nto be found further from our start point. SUMMARY:Norfolk Birding Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Norfolk is arguably the UK’s premier birding county and late autumn is a fantastic time to visit\, with wintering geese\, ducks and waders arriving in numbers\, alongside the chance of scarce migrants and coastal specialities. We will spend the weekend visiting a selection of Norfolk’s best birding locations\, likely including areas around Cley\, Kelling\, Titchwell\, Snettisham and the north Norfolk coast\, with the final itinerary guided by recent bird sightings and weather conditions. \nProposed Plan\nFriday 30 October \n\nTravel to Norfolk\nAfternoon birding en route if time allows\nOvernight accommodation\n\nSaturday 31 October \n\nFull day birding along the north Norfolk coast\nOvernight accommodation\n\nSunday 1 November \n\nMorning / Early afternoon birding session\nReturn journey home\n\nCosts\nAt this stage we’re looking for expressions of interest before booking accommodation. \nIndicative costs are: \n\n\n\nItem\nCost\n\n\n\n\nFuel contribution\n£50 pp\n\n\nAccommodation (2 nights @ £70)\n£140 pp\n\n\nEstimated Total\n£190 pp\n\n\n\nFood\, drinks and any personal expenses would be additional. \nAccommodation\nAccommodation and final costs will be confirmed once we know numbers.
