SUMMARY:Cotswold Water Park
DESCRIPTION:Leader Colin Greenfield\nPit 74 Cleveland Lakes: Twitchers Gate and Pit 201 The Old Railway Line\n2nd August 2026. Start 8.30am (duration 2-3 hrs).\nDepending on parking availability\, park at Twitchers Gate \nAn opportunity to explore part of the considerable Cotswold Water Park area\, which has over\n150 man-made lakes of various types from gravel scrapes to extensive reedbeds. The\ncentral location and the variety of habitats provide an important stop off point for migrating\nbirds\, during both spring and autumn. It is said that anything can turn up\, so this is our\nopportunity to put that to the test. \nThe target will be to find interesting breeding birds\, and birds starting their migration\,\nprobably waders at this time of year. \nWe will start at Rixon Gate\, known as Twitchers Gate\, found off Friday’s Ham Lane. After\nscanning lake 74 (Cleveland Lake)\, we will head along a minor road towards the old railway\nline to a couple of more recent pits that have attracted some good birds\, such as Yellow\nWagtail\, Wood Sandpiper and Temminck’s Stint back in the spring.\nAfter surveying these pits\, we can then return along the minor road back to Twitchers Gate.\nNote\, there is limited parking near to Cleveland Lakes. If space is limited parking may need\nto be found further from our start point. This will depend on the number of cars and parking\nspace on the day. \nFrancesco Veronesi from Italy\, CC BY-SA 2.0\, via Wikimedia Commons\nPossible birds: Bittern\, Hobby\, Egyptian Geese\, Red Crested Pochard\, Cattle\, Little and\nGreat White Egrets\, Sandpipers (Common\, Green).

SUMMARY:Stinchcombe Hill
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Mike Tranter\nTime: 9.00am – 12.00pm (2½ – 3 hours) Meet: Car park on Stinchcombe Hill\, grid ref ST7443 9837 what3words: ///beards.opposing.unwound \nAbout the walk\nA gentle Sunday morning walk\, taking two and a half to three hours to circle the hill\, led by Mike Tranter. \nStinchcombe Hill affords great views out from the Cotswold escarpment\, and this high\, open area is ideal for Skylark\, Buzzard and Red Kite\, as well as woodland birds along the edges. The uncut grassland is good for wildflowers and butterflies\, so there should be plenty to see beyond the birds. \nWe will be walking along footpaths and tracks that form part of the Cotswold Way. It is reasonable walking underfoot\, though there could be a few muddy patches if the weather breaks before then. \nGetting there\nAt the mini-roundabout as you enter Dursley town centre from the Community Centre and Gloucester direction\, turn right into May Lane. Continue on this road past the bus stop and the Old Spot pub to the top of the hill. Turn right and drive through the golf course to a car park on the left. \nBefore you come\nIf the trip is in doubt due to bad weather or unexpected circumstances\, or has to be cancelled\, we will try to contact everyone by phone or via the WhatsApp group. \n  \nNoel Reynolds\, CC BY 2.0\, Red Kite\, via Wikimedia Commons
